Welcome Back! I hope that everyone had a wonderful break with your family and friends.

Please encourage any 8th grade student interested in learning more about Pebblebrook’s Performing Arts Magnet to attend the informational session on December 4th by signing up on the sheet in the

counseling office or emailing Ms. Valencia, 8th grade counselor (cinde.valencia@cobbk12.org), with the student name and homeroom teacher.

All CCSD Magnet Applications are due today! We have had over 100 - 8th grade students apply to a

Cobb County Magnet including the NEW Cobb Innovation & Technology Academy (CITA) at Osborne. Congratulations to everyone who took a huge step in applying to these highly competitive programs.

The Campbell Middle School IB Committee has created a Community Service Project Guide for 8th

grade students. It is located on the school’s website. Click on the IB tab and scroll to the bottom of the page under CMS IB. English teachers will begin discussing the project (which is a requirement of CMS to maintain IB status) this week. Students will submit a proposal for their project prior to leaving for the December Holiday Break. So - yes they have homework!

Winter Weather

As we ease into December and January, please be mindful that if the district releases early due to a threat of inclement weather, our dismissal time would be 12:30. High School is 11:30, while elementary is 1:30. Again this only applies to impending weather storms that shift once school has started. If the district has a two-hour delay, our start time would be 11:15 with a normal dismissal of 4:15. Lunch is ALWAYS served regardless of a late start or early dismissal. Breakfast, however, does not happen on a 2-hour delay. Parents should visit the CCSD website or watch the local news.

This week we will are writing a campaign speech that is due on Wednesday, December 4th. The speech must have the following information:

(a) autobiographical information about your experiences before, during, and after the Civil War (including topics such as slavery, secession, Sherman’s Atlanta campaign, etc.).

(b) the causes and consequences of some recent events impacting the community (such as the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments, Reconstruction plans, Freedman’s Bureau, Ku Klux Klan, removal of African American legislators from the General Assembly, sharecropping, and tenant farming).

(c) your vision and goals for the future of Atlanta. What changes are needed in both power (political, economic, social) and culture in order to provide fairness and development for your constituents.

Thursday we will be starting SS8H7.

Homework this week is to complete USAtestprep.com assignment. The assignment is due by midnight on Friday, December 6th.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Hiles
