Hello Parents & Students,


I hope you all are safe and have electricity. Please remind your child that they are to study for Unit one test for my class. The assessment will be during their next class with me. They are to also have completed and submitted one minute and half video to flipgrid.com using the code hiles (all lowercase) and the period # they have me. Example: hiles9 The flipgrid is due by 7pm tonight.


This week we will start Unit 2 Culture and Adaptation.

SS8G1 Describe Georgia’s geography and climate.

a. Locate Georgia in relation to region, nation, continent, and hemispheres.

b. Distinguish among the five geographic regions of Georgia in terms of location, climate, agriculture, and economic contribution.

c. Locate key physical features of Georgia and explain their importance; include the Fall

Line, Okefenokee Swamp, Appalachian Mountains, Chattahoochee and Savannah Rivers, and barrier islands.

d. Analyze the importance of water in Georgia’s historical development and economic growth.



Students will be given the following assignment to complete this week. Assignment due Friday, November 6th. Turn in assignment to me in CTLS under the assignment tab.



Georgia Map Activity

Your Task: Your textbook has a variety of maps to help you learn about the geography Georgia. Using these and any other resources, create a map containing all of the following elements:

1. Create a compass rose on your map of Georgia indicating direction.

2. Locate and label the following:

▪ The five geographic regions of Georgia (outer/inner coastal plain)

▪ The Fall Line

▪ Surrounding states and ocean

▪ Cities: Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, Macon, Augusta, Savannah, Brunswick, Albany, Valdosta, Dahlonega

▪ Rivers: Savannah, Chattahoochee, St. Mary’s

▪ Lakes: Lanier

▪ Points of Interest/Natural Wonders: Okefenokee Swamp, Brasstown Bald, Appalachian Mountains (The Blue Ridge Mountains. are the southernmost part of the Appalachian Mountains)

▪ Barrier (Sea) Islands

3. Draw the following symbols and place them on your map:

• A mountain for Brasstown Bald

• An alligator for Okefenokkee Swamp

• Economic symbols:

• Draw an airplane at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

• Draw a ship at Georgia’s two deep water ports

• Draw a symbol for gold at Dahlonega

• Draw a chicken in the piedmont.

• Draw a pine tree in the outer coastal plain

• Draw a Vidalia onion or peanuts in the inner coastal plain

• Draw an Apple in the Blue Ridge

• Draw a symbol for UGA at Athens
